Advanced Disposal Chairman and CEO Charlie Appleby was a recent guest speaker at The Florida Leadership Academy at the University of Florida. His presentation focused on his perceptions of career, life and leadership as well as his personal career in building the largest privately-owned integrated, environmental services company in the U.S., Advanced Disposal .

“Some of my favorite days away from the office are those when I can go back to the classroom and visit with young, motivated students – an extra plus if it means a trip to my old stomping grounds at the University of Florida,” said Appleby. “It’s important to me personally to give back and shed some light on the true opportunities in the environmental services industry and the incredible leadership lessons it taught me. It’s an industry with great potential for creative minds to lead the future.”

Horace Tucker, program director of Florida Leadership Academy, invited Appleby to speak to two classes. Tucker and Appleby served together in the Florida National Guard for many years. Appleby graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in political science as well as Stetson University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a Master in Business Administration.
